Trump starts new year by condemning Pakistan, encouraging Iranian protesters

President Trump kicked off 2018 by bashing Pakistan and backing the Iranian people, whom he once accused of supporting terrorists.

“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!” he tweeted Monday morning.

What specifically set Trump off about Pakistan wasn’t immediately clear.

The Trump administration has mulled withholding about $255 million in aid to send a message to Pakistan over its oftentimes tense relationship
