Can these Guys Defend Guyana?

Accusing fingers are being pointed at ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who are said to have “unlawfully” invaded the home of a visually impaired man at the Tabatinga Village, Central Rupununi.
Reports are that during the wee hours of Monday morning, some GDF ranks, armed with assault rifles barged into the man’s private property.
Kaieteur News understands that a former GDF Sergeant was at the time at the residence taking care of the ‘handicapped’ man when the incident occurred.
The former Sergeant who was identified as Eric Bobb, told Kaieteur News that he was “doing a favour” for a friend who would take care of the elderly man.
Bobb’s friend had left for Georgetown a few days prior, with his wife and asked Bobb to take care of the visually impaired man until their return.
When the ranks stormed into the yard, Bobb’s young son was with him along with a couple who was also in the house sleeping.
It was stated that this incident stemmed from the fact that Bobb’s ex-wife was dating another GDF rank and jealousy spurred the home invasion.
This newspaper was told that the GDF ranks were consuming alcohol mere hours before the incident occurred and Bobb’s ex-wife was also present in the imbibing session.
She reportedly left, causing the rank with whom she was involved to become suspicious and assumed that she was with Bobb.
This newspaper understands that when the GDF ranks arrived at the residence they caused a “big commotion”.
“Persons in the house became afraid after seeing the men armed with big guns demanding that Bobb leave with them since they were arresting him…How can they arrest him…They are not police and only police are supposed to do that so why didn’t they call the police or come with police if he did something that warranted an arrest…These GDF ranks cannot go and come as they please with weapons at any hour in people place,” opined one resident.
According to another resident, the ranks had told the former Sergeant that they wanted to take him to the police station because he was seen in the army compound with a cutlass.
A police rank told Kaieteur News that the GDF ranks have “no right” to take weapons and go to people’s homes to arrest them.
Police ranks should have been present if this was to be done.
Other villagers are still concerned about the behaviour of these ranks and some are still very much traumatized.
