Southern Ontario police continue to search for a suspect wearing a school uniform after a Brampton student was attacked with a knife on the first day of school.
Peel Regional Police said a male victim was slashed with a knife at the Cardinal Leger Secondary School, near Clarence Street and Main Street South, at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Peel EMS said the injured student was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
After the stabbing, Const. Fiona Thivierge said the suspect is also believed to be a student. He is described as 5’8†with a skinny build and shaved head. He was last seen wearing a school uniform and was reported to have fled the scene on foot.
By Monday afternoon, Peel police said they knew the identity of the suspect, but said he couldn’t be identified because he is a minor.
A canine search team and a tactical unit were called in to assist in the search.
Cardinal Leger Secondary School and two other schools were temporarily placed in hold and secure mode following the incident – meaning students were kept inside during the police investigation.
The hold and secure was lifted at 12:30 p.m. when the area was deemed to be safe.
