Eleven overseas-based doctors are lending their services to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital as part of a medical programme the group carries out each year.
The doctors are from the Organization for Social and Health Advancement for Guyana and the Caribbean (OSHAGC).
The group’s CEO is Ms. Carol Trim- Bagot and is headed by Dr. Burman Saunders, Doctor Kurt, herself, Chester and Dr. Theophilus Lewis. There are several doctors, Surgeons, Gynecologists, Oncologists, Neurologists, Orthopedic surgeons, two Internists, all working at the clinic and in the hospital.
“Our mission here is to continue to foster a relationship with the N/A Hospital…and we are hoping to continue this relationshipâ€, Ms. Bagot said. The annual project, she explained, is done with a team of specialists from the USA.
Doctor Saunders, she revealed, just returned from a mission in Belize “and we are now in talks with St Lucia, and at some point the team will be visiting there, so we are trying to make sure everybody is served as our mission dictatesâ€.
She thanked the CEO of the Hospital and Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, CEO of the Berbice Regional Health Authority as well as doctor Algu, “for working with us and helping this team to see many patients before we leaveâ€.
Bagot added that the organization also brought a large amount of medical supplies that the hospital needs. Nurse Fraser, too, is expected to do some Continuing Medical Education Conferences as well to boost their training next Tuesday. The sessions will deal with diabetes and ethics in nursing.
Nurse Sampson of the N/A Hospital Operating Theatre expressed thanks and revealed some of the items that were donated by the organization. He listed some items as abdominal packs, abdominal drips, urinary- collecting sets, sutures, scrub brushes, forceps and bandages.
“We are very happy and it’s quite a sum for these things and we are happy to have them and we will use them to help patients who need surgeryâ€.
Also present was Ms. Sybil Chester, Advisor sitting on the Advisory and Executive Board of the organization. The team has clinics too, in Fyrish and they will head off to Belladrum, Enmore and then to Buxton and finally to Campbellville Health Centre in the city.
CEO of the N/A Hospital also expressed words of thanks. “I’d like to join and welcome the folks from OSHAGC and to say we are really grateful and we want to assure you that every piece of equipment given to us will be used only for patient-care…we hope that we will have a lasting relationship with you and you are so welcome here; just feel welcomeâ€.
