Dude who told you that x-mas celebration in Guyana was sanctimonious? Men look for every reason to pelay-daru...and x-mas, the birth of Christo is just another reason to do so.

Rum drinking was the least of the enjoyment .. that part does not bring back good memories.
before I got married and children, Christmas Eve for me was the highlight of the holiday. Me and my friends would get dressed pretty early, exchanged our gifts and then and head for the seawalls, where we met, of course ... boyyyyssssssssss
then we all headed down to Fogarty's for the carol singing and just hanging out. we stayed out pretty late and then headed to one of the homes for wine (pak pak in those days, I'm sure Ketchim can remember that) and black cake.
by the time we all got to our respective homes, it was christmas morning and time to shower and have christmas breakfast with the family, then head back to bed.
sounds simplistic but those were happy times.

Yep ......
after marriage and children, it was just work work work to have everything ready for Christmas morning. of course seeing their little excited faces made up for it. damn, those children got up at the crack of dawn and insisted on opening their gifts.
