WICF v3.0 - Updates - Issue Reporting - Requests

What? Why? How?

The forum has been updated using newer scripts/technology. Since we were using a version nearly 3 years old, with modifications as old, I had start with a fresh design. Rather than updating the previous layout, I used the opportunity to use a modern design and new back-end technology. (Other reasons: close security holes, block automated spam, I'm on vacation)

For current users, there should be no change to how you use this website.


New Features

We have a real mobile website! Users on smartphones should see a new touch enabled version of the page that will make usage very convenient. (if you have an older phone, you will get a classic text version of the site)

Nearly every feature available on the main site is available via mobile now, including the shout box



If you end up on the wrong version of the site on either PC or mobile, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will be able to switch between the desktop and mobile version.


Facebook and Twitter? What is this?



Firstly, these additions have no impact on any current user, or anyone that would like to join the site.

Facebook and twitter offer their users the ability to register and login to external websites quickly using their existing accounts. What this does is allow fb and twitter users to quickly join or login to WICF. New users can still register without using these options to join us. For existing users, you can connect your profile to twitter or facebook in your profile options. This is not necessary, but if you choose to, you'd then be able to click the fb/twitter buttons to seamlessly login to our site.

I was diligent to remove any private information from your fb account being associated on our website. New users will be given a random username with no connection to your facebook/twitter. You will receive instructions on how to change your username. FB/twitter will be only used for login purposes.


Other Changes

Shout Box - This has been moved, made more legible, and expanded to mobile users. Though it's not popular with all users, it's a fun feature that we use for quick chat. New posts should be used for opinions and topics, since the shout box is limited to recent shouts.

Live Scores - The vCricket score was removed due to issues (mostly aesthetic) with our new design. I've switched to cricinfo for now. I understand that vCricket was useful, so I will be incorporating a version on "The Pitch", ETA TBD.

Spoiler/Hide - You can hide parts of your post, requiring the viewer to click to view content. Available on post page by clicking . Example below:




Settings/etc.

I had to troubleshoot multiple issues during the transition. I reset everyone's default preferences and removed newer smileys. They can be changed in your profile. Smileys will be added back in time.

Some mods that we had (important ones were re-implemented) had to be removed. You probably won't notice, but I will be adding useful features in as we go.


Issue Reporting/Requests

Change happened. I'd prefer feedback on usability and actual issues, rather than I don't like this...etc. I'm looking for issues with readability, load times, design issues (see below), and broken features/pages. I will change text size, colors, etc to make reading as best as possible.

We are using custom fonts, newer browser features, and dynamic mobile detection. I've tested in windows, mac, android, and ipad/iphone. Please let me know about any issues you come across, things that don't look right (example: the website should not exceed your screen size). Give me your operating system and browser for reporting issues.

i implemented and wrote all that while drinking whiskey. an accomplishment i'd say.

I am using Firefox 17 and the page is extremely wide.
When I resize it, it still doesn't look right.

how big is your monitor? i have it set take up 95% of screen if its bigger than 960. i have a fix for that, but I want to make sure you have a big screen. though...that should have been an issue on the old site, i cant remember.

also to note, any post done prior to upgrade with a very large image will throw off the layout. future posts will be automatically resized. i will fix old posts soon.

I am using a 15.4"  screen and when I started a new thread the subject box was all the way to the right, whilst the message box was all the way to the left.

is it still doing that?
