The Dutch spent more than 200 years here in then Guiana, and left many markers of their presence behind, including forts, the seawall, village names and Dutch bottles such as these.
As many plantations presided on the banks of rivers, the Dutch discarded their empty wine and beer bottles into nearby rivers. Today these circa 18th century glass bottles are retrieved for their souvenir appeal and antiquated beauty.

I used to hear similar stories too. One I remember was of some poor soul who peed on the Dutch bottle only to have the Dutch man jumbie hold them until the pandit came and did his thing to loosen the jumbie.
