One of my favorite past time in Guyana was "bush cook" on Saturday afternoons. My sister, my two friends and I would "take" stuff from our parents house e.g. some rice, a cube, some peas, a coconut. We would solicit scrap salt fish and salt beef from the local shop keeper and the "bush cook" was ON. Hard or soft, fresh or salty, it was our cooking and we sure enjoyed it even with the sand or ashes in the food. What are some of your fondest memories as a pre-teen or teenager growing up in Guyana. Lets talk fun stuff.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

i loved to bush cook growing up
cookup rice was dah bomb
we used everything found right around the house/yard
rice and salt from my mom's kitchen
bhagee, young okra, hot pepper and thyme from her garden
dry coconut from the tree in our back yard....to get coconut milk
used rocks to build the fireside
searched under all the trees for dry wood
i can actually picture the pot boiling
and when it half cooked.....we all used to dig in
