Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine brings Guyanese comedy to the forefront

THE face of comedy has been transformed into one of pure holistic entertainment that is determined to produce and promote Guyanese sport and culture throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. And that face belongs to none other than Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine, the evergreen entertainer whose career started way back in 1985 when he was employed by Mohamed’s Record Bar as a salesman. He would later move into the field of production when he produced the first ever East vs. West Basketball game at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in 1987, and in 1990, he migrated to Antigua, where he was DJ at the Tropics Nite Club and 100% Reggae.

He took a break in 1996 when he returned home, and in 2003, Kirk became a member of the drama fraternity. He has since adopted the stage name “Mr. Chow Pow”, and has risen to fame over the last few years. His ability to organize and produce shows was spotted by former Marketing Manager of GT&T Wystan Robertson, who invited “Chow” to be part of the GT&T team in 2009. There he adopted the corporate title ‘Bluie Maxx”, and the rest is history.

Now the well set entertainer has launched his own Agency, “Yolo Entertainment & Advertising”, which is located on South Street, Lacytown, Georgetown. The company has been producing various comedy shows, and has been managing corporate promotions over the last few years; but its biggest productions to date are the DT/CHOW POW’S 10/10 CHALLENGE SERIES, which is in progress at the Wales Community Centre Ground.

The tournament has attracted sixteen of the best softball cricket teams in the country and is staged in a carnival type atmosphere. Fans turning out to the games are enjoying music all day, and are given chances to win daily prizes.

The top prize for the fans in the tournament is a Jailing Eclipse motor cycle. Chow Pow said he did not reinvent the wheel in terms of the 10/10 format, but simply improved the design. Digital Technology, Banks DIH, Creative Jewellery and Pawnshop, Giftland OfficeMaxx and Jai Signs are some of the companies that have come forward with sponsorship.

The preliminary games will conclude this weekend at the Wales Community Centre Ground, after which the focus will shift to the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground on April 7 and 14 for the semi-finals and finals respectively. The Yolo Entertainment group is extremely grateful for the support it has gotten thus far, and is in consultations with sponsorship companies for future events.
