Windy ride into Wellington for cricketers

The touring West Indies cricket squad have had their first taste of Wellington's notoriously windy conditions ahead of the second Test against the Black Caps.

The two squads had a bumpy flight from Dunedin to the capital, with their pilot having to abort a first landing attempt as the plane was being blown sideways.

Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor says it was a very rough ride.

"We came into land and we were going sideways and then the pilot aborted the landing and we had to come back and it was still pretty hairy the last time", Taylor said.

"The pilot got a standing ovation once we landed."

Meanwhile, in a boost to the Black Caps, Kane Williamson is on track to return to the national side for the second Test beginning on December 11.

The top-order batsman hit a century playing for Bay of Plenty, testing out the broken left thumb that kept him out of the drawn first Test.
