West Indies players feeling homesick in New Zealand

Some West Indies players admitted that their minds were wandering elsewhere in the ongoing Twenty20 series against New Zealand.

The West Indies started their tour of New Zealand November 27 and have since played three Tests, five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one T20 International. Their last match of the series — the second and final T20I — will be held in Wellington on January 15.

A number of their players are suffering from homesickness with six of the team having been in New Zealand for the whole tour. Opening batsman Kieran Powell said with some players being away in India beforehand, it has become a long time from home.

“This week will probably be the most difficult week of my life for sure, having been away from home for longer than anyone else on this tour. It takes a toll on anyone to be away from home for such a long time,” he said.

Some of the players departed the Caribbean on October 20 for a one-week Elite Tour in Orlando, Florida in USA, before travelling to India for two Tests and three ODIs.

This is one of the things that has amazed me about International Cricket.  The sheer amount of time they spend playing or touring is crazy.  The Aussies played in India last year, then went straight to England for the Ashes then a one day series, then went to India again! Then they came back to Australia for another Ashes, which while at home, isn't exactly the same as resting. Now they're playing a 8 games ODI and T20 series, before going straight to South Africa.

I'm sure the West Indies and pretty much all other international teams have had it equally as tough.  I'm not surprised home sickness is an issue!  There's no off season in cricket.

a man who thinks like I do on this issue!

yes as I have argued previously TOO MUCH TEST CRICKET AND TOURING.  they are killing the longer form of the game by playing too much... usually in front of totally empty stands

I would make like 6-7 test nations....with a relegation system of 1 every year, 2 or 3.  the top nations would tour and play tests  as infrequently as is feasible.

the lower levels would play each other at the same pace and in time one moves up and one moves down.  and of course there would be the shorter forms of the game that all would be involved in at the championship levels

but that is just ideas I have in mind but somethng must be done to make the game sane again, to save test cricket and to re-incorporate the people of the nations for the test challenges

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

WarrenJameis Winston is asked about being named QB3 on the Giants' roster behind Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart:

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.

I focus on what I would love. And what I would love is for this team to have success."
