St John's - Defending champions the West Indies on Saturday announced a provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20, which will take place in Bangladesh in March and April.

The Windies, who won the 2012 title with victory against hosts Sri Lanka in the final, will play all of their preliminary round matches at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.

Their campaign begins against India on March 23 and two days later they take on one of the ICC qualifiers.

Their third match will be against Australia on March 28 followed by a clash against Pakistan on April 1.

The semi-finals are slated for April 3 and 4, with thefinal on April 6.

Provisional West Indies squad:

Notable absence is young Evin Lewis who played such good innings in the Champions League where the opposition was world class. Walton is a surprise after his series of ducks. Fletcher / Simmons are the obvious back up keepers. Cottrell did his case a lot of harm by going to India not fully fit. Several of these have poor form so the regional 50s may shed some light but the standard in these games is too low for my liking.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul has been ruled out of the second test between the West Indies and New Zealand due to a side strain.

Chanderpaul suffered the injury while playing a shot in the nets on Tuesday.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team.
