Joyce targets series win

Ireland batsman Ed Joyce has his sights set on a historic Twenty20 series win over West Indies when the sides reconvene at Sabina Park on Friday.

The Irish upset the reigning World T20 champions with a six-wicket success in Jamaica on Wednesday, with Joyce making 40 not out to see his side past the hosts' mark of 116.

That victory brought back memories of the famous St Patrick's Day defeat of Pakistan on the same ground at the 2007 World Cup but an even greater prize awaits this time.

Should Joyce and company manage to repeat the feat, it would represent a first series win over full member opposition.

And that is a goal that is not lost on the 35-year-old.

"It's absolutely possible," he told cricketireland.ie.

"The way we played in the first game proved to a lot of the younger players in the squad that we can beat the world champions and that should give us huge confidence.

"It would be lovely to win 2-0, especially as we're probably a slightly better 50-over side than a 20-over side.

"We came so close to beating Pakistan in a series last year and we've dominated the associate scene for a while so it would be nice to get a big win against a major cricket nation."

Spinner George Dockrell will once again be key to Ireland's hopes, having returned a miserly one for 15 in his four overs last time out.

That analysis was one run cheaper than Sunil Narine, the world's number one T20 bowler, managed for the Windies.

Somerset tweaker Dockrell said: "For me this is the first big win I've had in T20. I played against England when we won in 2011 (in an ODI) and that was pretty special, but I'm feeling it again with lots of messages and tweets from back home.

"It's great to have so many people behind us recognising what a big feat this is."
