The death of West Indies Test cricket

PORT OF SPAIN, 8 NOV: West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has again accused the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of axing him as captain because of his role in the abandonment of the tour of India, and says this is a breach of his rights.

Though the TTCB rejected the player’s initial allegations in a statement earlier this week, Ramdin iterated he had been told he would not be appointed captain because he did not "demonstrate proper leadership" in the West Indies players’ controversial decision abruptly to quit the series over a pay row with their union, the West Indies Players Association.

“On 3 November, 2014, I attended a meeting with the TTCB. At that meeting, I was told since I did not demonstrate proper leadership in relation to the tour,  I would be relieved of the captaincy and replaced by Rayad Emrit,” Ramdin said in a statement.

“I understood this to be a punishment contrary to the undertaking given by the WICB at the meeting on Friday, 31 October, 2014. I am also advised that this action is a breach of my rights as the task force appointed by the WICB has not made any findings and has made no findings of misconduct against me,” he added.

Ramdin was one of the players who walked off the tour of India last month, sparking off a bitter dispute between the WIPA, the WICB and themselves.
Their actions, which wrecked the one-day tour and also resulted in the cancellation of the three-Test tour, left the WICB facing a damages claim from the Board of Control for Cricket in India of nearly $42 million.
At a recent high-level meeting here chaired by St Vincent’s prime minister Ralph Gonsalves, Ramdin said the WICB had given the assurance that none of the players involved in the abandoned tour would face recriminations.
Ramdin said the TTCB’s actions were a violation of these agreements, and claimed he had even been barred from attending a recent Trinidad and Tobago team practice session.

A bunch of Caribbean islands, each with their own governments, coming together for cricket is one of the greatest examples of a sports co-operative. The hordes of problems in recent decades aside, the many differences were generally papered over and the facade of a unified front maintained in West Indies cricket.

Sigh !! ..... so where is this situation at now after all these 'emergency' meet ups ?

Bravo writing to Marlon, Ritchie sacked, BCCI want 42 million US$, Ramdin claiming victimization that he's been sacked by TT board, TT board say Ramdin not sacked, well not yet  anyways  ;D  click here , Government heads getting involved, men travelling all 'ovah de place' for meetings, cricketers of other teams, journalists and dem dead grannies all have something to say, Muirhead is like an invisible man, Pybus keeping a low profile, Cameron saying nowt, players' lawyer telling players to keep their mouths shut  ..........

So .... where are we now exactly ??
;D ;D

Calypso,

This is a pay dispute and theerfore a business matter so if anyone should be visible it is Muirhed the Chief Executive Office, the man responsible for pay and other financial and business matters.

You may wish to hear from Pybus but I would be surprised if pay and conditions come under his remit.

Had it been something to do with the implementation of the PCL, the infrastructure changes he has suggested etc, then I would expect him to be at the forefront.

However your view and or knowledge of his role might be clearer to you.

In fact I really do not know what anyones' job description is.

Neither do I ...  :D

However Mr. Pybus was involved in part as was it not him who penned a letter to BCCI.  I could be wrong here  :-\

Calypso,

In the scheme of Governance do you think that it would be for Pybus to have voluntarily penned an email?

Whether he did it of his own accord or not, normally you correspond like for like and Pybus' role is akin to that of Ravi Shastri.

He is not an executive Director, he is not a Board member but my reading into this is he was a patsy.

Do you not think Muirhead comes well before him in the pecking order?

I really do think we need to clearly look at what caused the entire problem.

It was not the palyers being unreasonable and demanding more, it was deceit so for me the blame lies firmly at the door of the employers.

Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of AT&T Stadium, otherwise known as “Jerry World,” is the glare from the sun that bursts through the windows and shines directly onto the field. Time and time again the glare has impacted players’ visibility during games, yet Jerry Jones refuses to make any changes to account for the sun.

Rather than install curtains, Jones has previously said he feels it’s a home-field advantage to have that type of stadium factor impacting games. Well, the glare ended up benefitting the Chiefs early into Thursday’s Thanksgiving game, as a pass from Dak Prescott to George Pickens fell incomplete, at least in part due to the impact of the sun’s glare.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.

But you have to be able to be grateful for your role...my role right now is to assist Russ and Jaxson to be the best that they can be while preparing to be the best that I can be.

No matter if I'm 3, 33, this is my first year being number 19, so it's always a first for everything.
