Yorkshire’s Liam Plunkett is determined to show England captain Alastair Cook he is still around when he faces the MCC in Abu Dhabi. The 29-year-old made a return to England colours against Sri Lanka last summer only for injury to rob him of the chance to play two Tests against India later in the summer.
It was the former Durham paceman’s first Test experience for seven years after he was rewarded for his excellent form in the County Championship.
The Middlesbrough-born ace has become one of the quickest bowlers on the county circuit and has the ability to hurry the best batsmen around, and he was used as an ‘enforcer’ by England at times last year.
Plunkett is due to play for the Headingley outfit in the now traditional curtain-raiser to the new campaign in the United Arab Emirates, and he is out to give the Essex left-hander a nudge in the right direction.
“You want to bowl quick at him, let him know you are there and make him think about you for the future,†he said. “It will be nice to let him know you are in good form, bowling quick.
“He is a good player, you don’t get that average playing that long for England. He had a bit of indifferent form but I’m sure the runs will come this year.â€

Plunkett touring the Caribbean.
He has a few bowlers "ahead" of him but with injuries etc he could get a chance.
