HOPING TO MAKE AN IMPACT: Jyd Goolie


Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 all-rounder Jyd Goolie has been working intensely on his fitness to ensure that he plays a critical role at the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Youth tournament in Jamaica later this month.

“Training is going very good for now and it has been very intense. My fitness level has been a bit low and it is back up there now so by the tournament it should be good,” said Goolie.

The First Citizens Clarke Road player explained that he is confident in his batting form but is adamant that he could go to another level if his fitness continues to improve.

“I am about 60% there with the batting but my fitness has been a bit low and I know if I can get it right before the tournament I can be very effective for the team,” said Goolie.

He continued ”I am more confident about my batting…my bowling has been coming along. I have been concentrating a great deal on the batting even though I have been making a few mistakes but I am confident that I can get to the level I should be at.”

The Iere College student believes that he will have a critical role to play for the national team at the Regional Under-19 tournament which will be contested solely in the limited-overs format.

“I think I will have a big role. Hopefully the guys at the top can give us a big start and I will come in the middle and keep the innings steady and maximise the last ten overs as much as possible,” said Goolie.

Questioned about his goals heading into the tournament, Goolie admitted that winning the tournament and gaining a place on the West Indies Under-19 team were at the forefront.

“To be honest I am looking at both. I desperately want to win the competition because for the past few years the national Under-19 team have not won anything. If I can have a good tournament I can get a place on the West Indies Under-19 team and then move on to the West Indies team so I will be giving my best,” said Goolie.
