South African fast bowler gets hat-trick on debut

After a start delayed due to rain, the 1st ODI between South Africa and Bangladesh finally got started. South Africa lost the toss and were told to bowl. No doubt they're happy to have lost the toss now as debutant fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has got them off to a wonderful start, taking a hat trick in his 2nd over including the valuable wicket of Mahmudullah. Bangladesh are currently 26-3.

I believe the only other bowler to take a hat-trick on debut in an ODI prior to Rabada was Tailjul Islam, who achieved this feat for Bangladesh last year against Zimbabwe. A shame he is not playing in this match.

I don't think I've seen him play. That was a pretty impressive performance, but Zimbabwe were already in trouble at 120-5. Rabada went one better because he took the first three wickets of the match and he's playing in a match in which most of South Africa's front-line bowlers have been rested.

And Radaba finishes with 6/16, the best ever bowling figures on debut by any bowler. The only other bowler to have taken 6 wickets on ODI debut was West Indies' Fidel Edwards who took 6/22 against Zimbabwe in November 2003.
