U-19s face Barbados in Regional opener

Team chemistry may be a plus for the national Under-19 team at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional U-19 50-over tournament, which bowls off today in Jamaica at 9.30 am.
T&T who will play Barbados in round one at Jamalco, Windward Islands will duke it out against ICC Americas at St Elizabeth Technical High School and defending champions Guyana will tackle home team Jamaica at Manchester High School. The Leeward Islands are on a first round bye.
Eight players on the U-19 national team played on the national team that captured the WICB Regional U-17 title in 2013. The players include Clevon Kalawan, Jeron Maniram, Jyd Goolie, Dejourn Charles, Anderson Phillip, Amir Jangoo, Bryan Boodram and Varindra Jagrup. Jagrup will captain the team as he did in 2013 with the U-17 squad. The T&T squad also includes Saiba Batoosingh, Kirstan Kallicharan, Keagan Simmons and Cephas Cooper, who all represented the country at the recently concluded Regional U-17 tournament in Tobago. The U-17 national team finished second in the regional tournament. Jordan Warner, who represented the national U-17 team last year and former West Indies U-19 fast bowler Akil Sital makes up the 14-man squad.
The first stage of the tournament will be played in a round robin format between today and July 31. The top two teams will then advance to the final on August 2.
