West Indies Test captain Denesh Ramdin is looking forward to some rest and relaxation following the Hero Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 after being left out of the West Indies ODI side for the tri-series in Zimbabwe in August-September featuring the hosts and Pakistan.

A newspaper report yesterday said the West Indies Cricket Board selectors had opted to drop Ramdin from the ODI squad for the upcoming series but the WICB has not sent out any official correspondence to confirmation the selection of any team.

Ramdin, who is the captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the CPL, said he was not aware of the move by the West Indies selectors “but if that is the case I will have some extra time to spend with my son (Adair).”

“It is a good rest I would say. I will spend some more time with my new-born son and I am really going to enjoy that and I will get back to the gym and do some power work and try and take it easy for the next month or so,” the Windies Test captain added.

He also wished his ODI replacement best of luck but said he had no clue who would be drafted into the ODI squad saying, “No clue, good luck whoever is that guy.”

Asked why he thought the selectors would drop him from the ODI squad, Ramdin said, “Probably they think I have been playing too much cricket with the CPL and the series against England and Australia and we have series against Sir Lanka and then Australia later in the year so they could be thinking I need some rest so it is not bad. I’ll relax home, enjoy Trinidad and some home-cooked food.”

Speaking about the birth of his son, Ramdin said “It is a lot happiness now.”

“I just want to see him all the time. He brings a lot of joy and makes me want to go out there and do well all the time and gives me that inner drive to believe in myself and helps me to do great things on the field and off the field as well,” the Windies Test captain added.
