CENTURION: Nicholas Sookdeosingh

ST AUGUSTINE

Nicholas Sookdeosingh was at his best yesterday in the UWI-UNICOM National Twenty20 Tournament yesterday, slapping an unbeaten 102 as Duncan-Buggy Haynes whipped Moosai Sports by 102 runs in the opening Group C match at Sir Frank Worrell Ground in St Augustine.
Moosai won the toss and batted with Man of the Match Sookdeosingh facing just 55 balls to reach triple figures as he led the Duncan-Buggy Haynes to an imposing 229 for two.

Williams Perkins also played a hand in the demolition, slapping 58 off 38 balls while Yannick Ottley chipped in with an unbeaten 37 off just 19 balls to ensure their team went past the 200-run mark.
Moosai never got close. The East Zone team were restricted to 127 for eight with a top score of 27 from Lyndell Nelson. Ryan Inniss and Adrian Geeban chipped in with 20 and 16 respectively. Uthman Mohammed did most of the damage for Duncan-Buggy Haynes grabbing four wickets for 25 runs while Stephawn Solomon and Dillon Mungal chipped in with two wickets each.

The other team in Group C are visiting Demerara, who were scheduled to meet Duncan-Buggy Haynes in yesterday’s second encounter before facing Moosai in the feature match from 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, in the feature game on Saturday night, defending champions Club Crusoe closed off the group stage with a nail-biting two-run win over Munroe Road Cricket Club as both clubs progressed to the quarter-finals.
Navin Stewart starred for the Tobago side hitting 66 as Club Crusoe posted 185 for seven off their 20 overs. Jason Persaud also did well with the bat, smashing 32 while Christopher Vincent and Kelon Lynch made 27 each.

Munroe Road got close to their target, reaching 183 for nine with Akeem Alvarez leading the way with 48. Stewart was at it again with the ball grabbing two for 39 to ensure the Tobago side finished on top in the group.
The defending champs will face Central Sports in the first quarter-final tomorrow from 2 pm while Munroe Road will oppose Cane Farm in the second quarter-final later, from 6 p.m.
