The Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) recently completed its first overseas tour since its resuscitation in 2013 with a tour to the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Tours of this nature were common in the 1970’s between Enmore Cricket Club and teams in South Trinidad. The Enmore delegation to Trindad comprised of 17 members and 17 supporters
The last overseas tour by Enmore Cricket Club was made by the late Vickey Sasenarine led team in 1978 where they engaged teams from the St. Madeline area South Trinidad.
The ECCCC squad, which included 10 players under the age of under 24 years, took on Exchange Sports Club in the first game in a T20 fixture and suffered a 36-run defeat.
Exchange Sports Club, which included four players with national experience for Trinidad, batted first and scored 148 in their allotment of overs with Nigel Boodhoo making an unbeaten 38 (4x4s, 2x6s). Christopher Surat, Chaitram Ramlall, Satesh Jainarine, Yuvraj Dayal and Ranjeet Hiralall took two wickets each for ECCCC.
In reply, ECCCC were restricted to 115-9 off 20 overs with Veerasammy Moonsammy and Surat scoring 24 and 20 runs respectively. Amelia Kaheera took 3-22, whilst Christopher Vincent and Trinbago Knight Riders player Anderson Phillip bagged 2-22 apiece.
Prizes were awarded to Surat of ECCCC for being Man-of-the-Match, Amelio Kaheera- best bowler and Nigel Boodhoo-best batsman.
In game two, ECCCC defeated Old Mac Exchange Sports Club by 105 runs in a 30-over game. ECCCC batted first and posted 218-9 with Rudolph Singh scoring 57 (5x4s, 2x6s), Bheemraj Ramkelawan 47 from 22 deliveries (6x4s, 2x6s) and Ranjeet Hiralall 18.
In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 113 in 23 overs with A. Gajadar scoring 25. Singh returned to take 5-8 and Satash Jainarine 3-25 from six overs for ECCCC. Singh took away prizes for best batsman and bowler, along with the Man-of-the-Match award.
Meanwhile, the third scheduled match was not possible due to inclement weather. As a result, ECCCC played two 10-over windball matches against Couva Masters.
ECCCC won the first game by six runs via a Super Over. SCORES: Couva Masters 88 and eight, ECCCC 88 and 14. Nabindra Gobin hit an unbeaten 40 for ECCCC. Couva masters rebounded in game two to win by one wicket off the final delivery. Scores: ECCCC 78-9, Couva Masters 79-9.
