A furious Curtly Ambrose once towered over Steve Waugh and threatened to punch his lights out in front of thousands of people during a Test match in 1995.

For a bowler who rarely offered more than a stare after sending down one of his thunderbolts, this was a blow-up truly out of character.

Whether Ambrose would have actually let his anger turn into a full-blown physical confrontation is up for debate, because his captain Richie Richardson made sure we never found out.

Richardson forcibly restraining Ambrose while Waugh looked him dead in the eye without moving an inch remains one of cricket’s most iconic images.
