BORN ENGLISH MAN REFUSED TO PLAY FOR WEST INDIES TEAM DESPITE HAVING GRENADIAN ROOTS!!!
….EMILIO DON’T WANT TO GO THROUGH WHAT BRENDON NASH, VERSAMMY PERMAUL AND AZAD FUNDADIN HAD TO GO THROUGH IN THE PRIVATE WEST INDIES TEAM
Emilio Gay Rejected to play international cricket for the private West Indies board to Chase England Test Dream.
Durham opener Emilio Gay has revealed he turned down an approach from West Indies, making it clear that his ultimate ambition is to represent England at the highest level.
Eligible for the Caribbean side through his father’s Grenadan heritage, Gay was contacted by a West Indies selector around eight to ten months ago. But the 26-year-old admitted his focus has always been on England and the dream of playing Ashes cricket.
“I want to play for England. I want to play in the Ashes or at the top level.”
Born and raised in Bedford and educated at the same school as Sir Alastair Cook, Gay said the conversation with West Indies was brief, though flattering.
The Durham batter is backing up his ambitions with outstanding County Championship form, scoring 344 runs at an average of 86.00 in just three matches, including two centuries.
