Legendary former Trinbagonian cricketer ๐ฟ๐๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐ง๐ง๐๐ฎ, who served as the primary Wicketkeeper and vice-captain for the West Indies during their golden era of dominance in the 1970s. Known for his tidy glovework and immense composure, he was an essential steadying force behind the stumps for the fearsome West Indian fast-bowling attacks.
๐ฟ๐๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐ง๐ง๐๐ฎ was first selected for the West Indies Cricket team while still at Queen's Royal College and he went on to represent the West Indies in 62 Test matches between 1963 and 1980. He made his test debut for the West Indies against England in the 1st Test at Manchester in June 1963 at the age of 20 yrs.
๐๐ช๐ง๐ง๐๐ฎ was the captain of the Trinidad and Tobago's team from 1976-1981, and was vice-captain of the West Indies teams that won the 1975 and the 1979 Cricket World Cups. Murrayโs glovework effected 189 Test dismissals and greatly enhanced the potency of the famous West Indies bowling attack when the team was at the top of their game.
Beyond his vice-captaincy under Clive Lloyd, ๐๐ช๐ง๐ง๐๐ฎ captained Trinidad and Tobago from 1976 to 1981 and stood in as West Indies Test captain for one match in 1979. Highly articulate and educated at Cambridge and Nottingham universities, he transitioned smoothly into diplomacy and administration after retiring. He represented Trinidad and Tobago at the United Nations and later served as the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) as well as High Commissioner to Jamaica.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
