After failing miserably in his last 20 tests, Indian selectors have chosen to drop Virender Sehwag from the test team.  His test average after 104 tests is now an ordinary 49.34----below the magical 50 marker.

TIDBITS ON SEHWAG:

* He scored his first triple hundred(309) in his 21st test against Pakistan.

* He scored his 2nd triple(319) in his 55th test against South Africa.

* He missed out on his 3rd triple(293) in his 72nd test against Sri Lanka.

* His batting average was 54.71 after his 72nd test.

* He was dropped after his 104th test---his batting average fell below 50(49.34).

Sehwag was an exciting player---very good career.

In his first reaction, Sehwag - who had been dropped from the ODI side for the series against England in January - tweeted: "Will continue to work hard for my place in the team. I trust my game and am confident that, 'I'll be back.' Best wishes to the team."

Hope Sehwag earns his way back onto the test team---he deserves to end his test career averaging 50+ and he also deserves to be the 4th Indian to join the illustrious 10K club---Gavaskar, Tendulkar and Dravid have scored over 10,000 runs in tests.

Even though Sehwag deserved this drop from the side due to his poor performance but there is more than what meets the eye.

Dhoni eliminates his rival group players one by one in the most wiliest of fashions without any bloodshed that looks normal on the outside. So don't ever count out what drama must have been played behind the close doors and which phone numbers must have had long conversations over the issue.

Murkier things with selections and power politics in Indian cricket has been going on for decades now that even the general Indian public understand by now.

Hmmmm! Interesting comment buroo!

Guess this is the end of Sehwag!

Looks like the only untouchable in the Indian team is the great Sachin!

What about Harbajan ? Will he survive ?

It's difficult to say whether Harbhajan Singh will survive the axe, since he is lucky to be playing to begin with. Looks like Dhoni and company will tick him off at a point leaving him no room for coming back. He cannot claim innocence either since he has not been in the best of form for quite sometime now and his performance is not at all inspiring against Australian rookies of spin.

He is a type of player who somehow needs the confidence of the captain to really egg him up, sadly that is not going to come from Dhoni for sure. But he should have learnt to play his game without any support after being a veteran of 100 tests. That's why he falls much short of the list of great Indian spinners that has Anil Kumble as the last entrant.

This Indian team is a fragmented one, divided into small groups and lobbies. It doesn't look that from outside but those who are aware of the inside stories know that. Many players are more eager to play for their own place rather than play as a team. That's why if intense pressure is applied on this team the most likelihood is that this team will crumble. I think we will see that once they go to South Africa sometime later.

So 50 is magical but 49 is ordinary? Interesting.
Sehwag purely thrived on his terrific hand-eye coordination, that and his poor balance  in the recent past has not helped him a bit. Was kind of inevitable to be honest, when you have your foot painted on and rely on hand eye coordination alone, you're bound to be in such a form slump when you age.

Check this:

100 is a hundred; 99 is a fifty. Similarly a 50 average is magical; a 49 average is ordinary.

RE: SEHWAG

Didn't he recently started wearing glasses ?

If true then his once perfect vision is no longer perfect.

STICK A FORK IN SEHWAG.

SerenaThis batting performance by the West Indies in the second innings blew me away. I kept closing my eyes and then rubbing and opening them again and sat transfixed as I watch that unbelievable partnership between John Campbell and Shai Hope. What a magnificent performance by these two! It just goes to show that patience, determination and effort can go a long way to improve the performances of the West Indies team. Let us hope that this effort by West Indies batsmen would not be a one-off performance, but will be the beginning of a renewed effort to improve the performances of the team, going forward.(13.10.2025, 09:28)(09:28)0

"As a competitor, you want to be the starter. But I prepare to be the starter, I know I'm a starter in this league.
