It has been drawn to my attention that my predecessor, Basil Williams, is contending that the passage of the No-Confidence Motion prevented the appointment of the Commissioners of the Law Reform Commission (LRC).
This must be a joke.
The Coalition Government never considered itself restrained in exercising Executive powers of a Government, as it should have done, as a result of the passage of the No-Confidence Motion. The public record is replete with appointments, promotions and dismissals across the governmental apparatus, including, the appointment of Directors to dozens of State and Government Boards, the disposal of state assets, the raiding of the Consolidated Fund without parliamentary approval, the execution of hundreds of contracts and the unauthorized expenditure of billions of dollars, none of which should have been done under a caretaker Government.
It is sheer incompetence that results in such a clumsy explanation.
