I am seeing some interesting and some not so pleasant discussion here. However, I am now farther away from where I would like to be in obtaining an explanation of how the worshiping of the cow came about.I would greatly appreciate It if someone here would be able to give a reasonable explanation.

I find all of it amazing. Not just religions and what the ancients did, but the fascination with precious metals. And the fascination with people offering those same metals to places of worship is mind-boggling.
