there is a good argument for her...Martina Navratilova. but she would not have been able to beat Serena....
also Martina Navratilova would not have beaten players like Sharapova, Clijsters,Wozniaki, Justine Hennen, who used to give Serena a world of trouble. those girls wold have been much too big and powerful for that Martina
Navratilova would not have gotten to first base with Venus either.
size as well as skill and class would be too much for Navratilova. it was way too much for Martina Hingis also, another short girl, who quit because she could not deal with the power of these modern generations of female tennis players.
most of the current female tennis players are six footers or near six footers..powerful women with lots of skill too. there is no way any of the older champions beating most of them. the only comparable one was Pam Shriver who was a six footer herself but not all that great. as I said..these girls are not only large and tall but they are very, very good players.
and Serena has beaten them all ever since the 1990's. that's the key. she has beaten about 3 generations of women stars..all of them. none of the rest has done that. that's the argument in her favour... plus the greatest serve ever seen in the women's game.
and yesterday Wozniacki broke that serve. there are women around who have broken Serena's magnificent serve and defeated her. you see. but there is no way in hell Chris Evert.Martina Navratilova, Pam Shriver, Patty Austen and all the rest even getting close to Serena's serve. they simply wont be able to handle it. thats the difference between those players and that day... and this day here now.
its a new day, an advanced day. the players are bigger, stronger, fitter, believe it or not faster, more skillful.
look at Venus, among the tallest of the lot. she was like lightening in her prime, so fast she stunned people. how can you be that big and so fast...like Usaine Bolt ::confused:: no one expected anything of the sort but there it is right in front of our eyes..large people yet as fast as any small person can be, zipping about the place.
that is why Serena is considered the best ever because she has consistently beaten the best of this new, unprecedented lot, for a long, long time

Serena might be the greatest, but these days I tune in to watch our very own Eugenie. I occasionally watch the tennis also. ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::
