I am almost certain that it is 40 days from day of death

Also....this observance is more of a tradition practiced by Indians/Pakistanis and West Indians.

foodwise Ketch.....there is no specific dish required.
make both....mitai and halwa
and if you invite me....I volunteer to make the halwa  ;D
