Supporters of Guyana’s opposition coalition have been urged to be vigilant during balloting and the counting of votes at next month’s general and regional elections.
Issuing the call on Saturday was A Partnership for National Unity’s (APNU) Vice Chairman, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine at the coalition’s rally at Damon Square, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast.
“For us in APNU, we have to recognise that after the people vote we have to protect the vote because we are dealing with a desperate band. All things are possible so when we cast that ballot on May 11 let us ensure that we make arrangements to secure every single ballot station and every single ballot box in the land because the revolution must succeed,†said Roopnaraine whose Working People’s Alliance (WPA) is a member of APNU.

Wading into Roopnarine, Rohee said: “Mr. Roopnarine should be reminded that it is the PPP that fought for free and fair elections, and a return of democracy to our beloved land; the very democracy that affords him the luxury to make such ludicrous statements with freedom, had Mr. Roopnarine or any of his cohorts tried that during the Burnham era, the rest would have been history.

COVERING FOR PNC
Moved to describe Roopnarine’s mouthings as smacking of “a level of disingenuousness,†Rohee said:
“The PPP views such a statement as ‘throwing dust in the people’s eyes’ as a cover-up to all that took place under the PNC regime, the very grouping that he now seeks to glorify and in bed with today.â€
The People’s National Congress (PNC), a majority partner in the APNU coalition, notoriously has a documented history of rigged elections, from 1964 up until 1992.

“I PROMISE you all: Once given the chance, we will work towards this vision (Guyana 2.0).â€This was the call from People’s Progressive Party/ Civic PPP/C member, Dr. Frank Anthony, who touted the Party’s vision, which is outlined in excerpts of its manifesto, ‘Guyana 2.0’ that was made public, Sunday.
Addressing a massive crowd at the Better Hope Market Tarmac, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Wednesday evening, he pointed to the success of the PPP/C Administration over the years, particularly in the areas of education and health, as well as the sustained economic progress under the stewardship of his party.

GUYANA is definitely on an accelerated growth track in relation to its CARICOM sisters, in spite of political and economic challenges. But President Ramotar is confident the growth figures could have been higher with cooperation from the political opposition. President Donald Ramotar last evening told residents at a public meeting at Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara, Region 3, that the Opposition has fought development at various stages over the past three years, in the National Assembly.
