Corruption charges coming for Jagdeo …five ex-ministers of PPP

The Ministry of Finance has announced that a one off tax free payment of $50,000 will be made to all active public sector workers earning less than $500,000 monthly.This payment will be effected in December.
Some 30,700 public sector workers including nurses, teachers, members of the Disciplined Services and semi-autonomous agencies will benefit.

A COMPLEX to house staff of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will have to be built next year to effectively facilitate rehabilitation of the City Hall building.The intention is to have the structure built in 1889 returned to its former glory.
City Hall boasts of a unique architectural design and is often described as “the most picturesque structure”, “the most handsome building in Georgetown”, and “one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the Caribbean”.
Although the M&CC is currently awaiting assistance from the European Union (EU) and other agencies, minor repair works are being done on the buildings covering the City Constabulary and Engineer’s Departments.
Speaking with this publication yesterday morning, Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green said the EU has promised to dispatch a team of consultants to do an assessment of what needs to be done on City Hall’s building.
She is confident that this task will be carried out in a timely manner next year because the M&CC has never had cause to distrust any agreements made with the EU thus far.
Though unable to estimate a figure for restoring City Hall’s building, Mayor Hamilton Green had also expressed optimism that the task will be completed next year.

Former Attorney General (AG), Anil Nandlall is baffled that the APNU+AFC government is accusing the PPP of being corrupt in a land deal between convicted fraudster Edul Ahmad and Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo. Nandlall, who is now a PPP Parliamentarian, told a news conference at Freedom House on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 that at the time of the deal, he was the lawyer representing Ahmad.
He explained that the project aimed to construct a hotel along with a strip mall and international restaurants and that the process was entirely legal.

CITY Magistrate Annette Singh has fined an Essequibo woman $25,000 for illegally departing Guyana.Gangadai Narine of Philadelphia, Essequibo Coast pleaded guilty to the charge alleging that on October 1, at Charity, Essequibo, she departed Guyana without presenting herself to an immigration officer.
She was deported to Guyana from Venezuela on December 16, and was handed over to law enforcement officers at the Criminal Investigation Department. She was questioned by police officers, and admitted committing the offence.
A default in paying the fine will result in Narine serving three months’ imprisonment.
