We was poor people and my fondest memories are when my mama would mix her cake with the usual .. Flour, Prunes . cherries , citron , sugar, one can Margarine which she mistakenly calls butter and eggs. Usually pound of sponge and one pound of fruit cake.
All the Marshall sardine cans saved being used as baking dishes. There was one brick oven in the village , crudely made but very effective,. From morning till night the ladies line up to use the oven and in the end all the baking gets done .
We weren't allowed to touch the cake until Christmas day and I got meself a lot on whuppin for trying to steal .
On Christmas morn . We indulge in cake wid Pepsi . Juicee and Icee

In my opinion Christmas doesn't feel so wonderful as when I was younger. It might be because I am not anymore waiting for presents so eagerly. I prefer more time spent with family and relatives.
