Three weeks before he killed six college students at UCSB, Elliot Rodger was visited by law officials who knew about his disturbing videos posted online. The new disclosure from the Santa Barbara County sheriff’s department followed an earlier claim that deputies had been unaware of any video when they checked on him on April 30. During the visit, police never searched the residence or checked to see if he had firearms because they did not deem him a threat. The statement from the department does not say why the videos were never viewed or if the deputies knew anything about the contents.

We miss you, Alice. Ann B. Davis, who earned fame playing the tireless maid who kept the Brady kids in shipshape, passed away Sunday. The 88-year-old actress reportedly slipped and hit her head Saturday and never regained consciousness. Davis was known to most Americans for her role on The Brady Bunch, but she earned two Emmy Awards playing secretary Schultzy on The Bob Cummings Show in the 1950s. Following The Brady Bunch, Davis became active in an Episcopalian community, but she didn't ditch acting altogether. She even made a cameo in the 1995 The Brady Brunch Movie as a truck driver who rescues Jan. Though many American kids of the late 1960s and early 1970s feel they were raised by Alice, Davis said “I basically don't do that well with children.†However, she did say she and the Brady kids “got along beautifully.â€

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl walked away from his unit before being captured by Taliban associates, a Pentagon investigation found in 2010, according to a senior defense official. Bergdahl was freed this weekend after the U.S. agreed to trade five Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay for his release. The official said it's "incontrovertible" that Bergdahl walked away, and though the military initiated an early frenzied rescue effort, it apparently later decided not to make a more dramatic attempt. As first reported by The Daily Beast, an officer who served with Bergdahl in his unit dispelled rumors that Bergdahl was on patrol that night, saying he "fled the outpost on foot. He deserted." The White House defended its decision Monday, saying, "It was the right thing to do. We in the United States do not leave our men and women behind during an armed conflict." They also said that the released Taliban fighters “do not, and will not, pose a significant threat.â€
