Bergdahl: Taliban Locked Me in a Cage
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has revealed upsetting details about the torture he faced as a prisoner of the Taliban, including that he was locked in a metal cage in total darkness for weeks straight. According to a senior Defense Department official, Bergdahl said this was punishment for his attempts at escape, which was first reported by The Daily Beast last week. Bergdahl also reportedly objects to being called sergeant as opposed to private first class, his rank when he was captured. While Bergdahl seems largely physically unscathed (mostly some skin and gum disorders), medical officials are concerned about his psychological state. Medical specialists have not pushed Bergdahl for more details about why he left his post or his experience as a Taliban captive. There is no deadline for his return to the U.S. because medical officials want to be more certain about his mental stability. While we don't know the full details of Bergdahl's experience yet, Senior Defense Department said it is safe to assume Bergdahl suffered "harsh conidtion," noting “These are Taliban, not wet nurses.â€

Three months to the date after Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared, the families of the missing passengers launched a $5 million crowd-funding campaign to pay for a private investigation on Sunday. According to the Indiegogo campaign, they hope to spend $2 million on private investigators and $3 million on a reward for whistleblower information. Sarah Bajc, whose partner was on the flight, said in a statement “Governments and agencies have given it their best shot but have failed to turn up a single shred of evidence, either because of a faulty approach or due to intentional misdirection by one or more individuals.†Family and loved ones of the missing passngers have been frustrated by the lack of progress and clues. Some have accussed authorities of covering up infomration. Ethan Hunt, a technology company chief leading the campaign, said “We are convinced that somewhere, someone knows something, and we hope this reward will entice him or her to come forward.â€
