SOBERS(8032 runs/57.78 avg/35.00% consistency) vs CHANDERPAUL(10830 runs/51.81 avg/35.45consistency)
OBSERVATION:
Sobers murdered the weak bowling of the subcontinent teams---he averaged 83.48 in 18 tests against India and 89.45 in 8 tests against Pakistan. But Sobers was ordinary against Australia--in 19 tests against Australia he averaged only 43.14 and he failed miserably against New Zealand---in 12 tests against NZ he averaged 23.76.
Having said that---Sobers' career must be judged in its entirety---and in 93 tests he scored 8032 runs at an average of 57.78 and a consistency of 35%.
Any batsman with a 50+ test average and a consistency of 35% is a bonafide great----unless that batsman is named Shiv Chanderpaul----in the West Indies only Sobers, Lara, Richards and 3Ws can be great----Chanderpaul will have to change his name to Charles to be perceived as a great with his great stats.
