None of this has anything to do with what I said. It's just more knee jerk calls for murder, the exact thing which created the Taliban in the first place.
Regardless, history already tells us what will happen to the Taliban. They will be, and are being, crushed. The survivors are already being absorbed into minor political positions within Pakistani villages.
The "Taliban" are not just armed nutcases. They're tribal groups of children and women, the elderly and so forth. There are tens of thousands of them.

Learning from history has nothing to do with this problem. The problem at hand is the religion itself. The absolute refusal for Muslims to not just condemn these murderers as not representing the values and ideas of the religion but to take a firm stand and say once and for all "No, we will not let you usurp and hijack the religion and we will take whatever action necessary to root you out".
Not once has this happened. For the simple reason that the values and ideals of the fanatics like the Taliban are in the Koran. They are the values of the religion itself.

Religion has nothing do with it when you think about it, because there's lots of religious people, including Muslims, who are thoroughly good, and contribute to humanity. With or without religion we have good and bad people.

"The data show that there is little connection between terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism, or any one of the world's religions. Rather, what nearly all terrorist attacks have in common is a specific secular and strategic goal: to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from territory that the terrorists consider to be their homeland." - Robert Pape (in a study of every major terrorist act over the past 80 years)
Sure, the Taliban are reactionary, right wing, religious nutcases, but they are not really "fighting for religion". You think Palestinians kill Israelis for "religion"? You think 9/11 was done for "religion"? You think the genocide in Sri Lanka was for "religion"? This school massacre certainly wasn't done for "religion". It was in retaliation for the Pakistani army's attacks late last month.
Until recently, Pakistani policy was to leave the Taliban alone. Ignore them and they ignore you. The problem is, they're still going over and attacking Afghanisan. The US doesnt like this. So the US pressures Pakistan to attack the Taliban, who of course retaliate against Pakistan.

To suggest this is to belittle and trivialize the problem.
These men are heavily armed and they fervently believe in such lofty ideals as the killing of every non-Muslim on this planet, the absolute subjugation of women, and the retardation and regression of modernity and scientific progress. They are dangerous. Their religion is equally dangerous. We must not let a shred of their stupid religious beliefs penetrate our secularist ideals, traditions, and institutions.

Utter non-sense and you know it. Look at a picture of a Palestinian suicide bomber. They are holding up a gun in one hand and a Koran in the other. And these murderers are not "fighting for religion". They are fighting, killing, and intimidating because of the religion.
