Rhodes connived his way to wealth in a lawless frontier culture, then used that fortune to fund a private invasion of East Africa. He bought newspapers in order to shape and control public opinion. He brokered secret deals, issued bribes and used gangs of mercenaries to butcher his opponents, seizing close to a million square miles of territory from its inhabitants. Although he did this in the name of the British Empire, he was regarded with some suspicion in his home country, and when it suited him to work against Britain’s imperial interests – by slipping £10,000 to Parnell’s Irish nationalists, for example – he did so without scruple.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

man you might be right. but as chairs said you did not get my point. I know we are behind although we might be further ahead than you think..and there may be areas we are quite excellent.
like I have found that in english and general knowledge we are far superior to the the regular canadian on any street in canada. and our achievements of world class are in literature and the humanities by a whopping margin. yet we have a few in there in economics and science and math..Capildeo, Gift, Arthur Lewis etc
the english, americans, canadians etc would be ahead of us technically..because we do not do anything that requires high applied science in the west indies. it is change in that I have in mind..development that requires the applied sciences to revolutionize our reality and produce high scientific development dragging all else upwards...in which our self education would take place..starting now at the level we have
it does not matter where you start as long as you start with the express purpose of scaling the mountain top

it still does not preclude a start, a beginning. we still have the job to do..to take care of ourselves. the development of our material circumstances depends on tackling our existential problems..unless we do the applied sciences ourselves essential for success. that is obvious and regular common sense.
we do it to solve the problems and soon we don't have to accept no Rhodes no more

I see some silly statements here, like pronouncements that Ms. Gomes will be set back two years. How they know this is anybody's guess. Just like they know the secrets of the world.
I see senility in an old fart trying to be pertinent, and Maps indulging the old chap's baseless comments. Maps is right to ask for proof. Time to put a stop to the lunacy of false pronouncements.
I was fortunate to have been educated in Guyana and the US.
