and I demonstrated how to cut that cost literally in half.  the toronto cab industry was well on its way to doing that about 20 years ago.  what the hell happened ::confused:: ::confused:: ::confused::

take the market out of the cab plates by issuing the plates in the way the newer plates were issued.

when a plate is issued to a drive it is between only the drive and the city period.  there is no middle man.  the costs are merely the yearly cost for the plate..a few thousand dollars I imagine. then insurance and the car payments.  that's it.

it is the private owners who control the city regulation to an extent that allows them to drive up the meter rate by which they get paid/. every time the meter rate rises the cab owners charge the full extent of the rise as increase of the rental of their plates ...and if they actually fit out a taxi and hire drivers to run it they jack up their rates to the drives to the full extent of the meter raise.

so if you kill the markets you also get rid of the owners, that powerful influence that keeps the costs rising to uncomfortable levels

UBER over the last 5 years has indeed killed the Plate market.

YOU!  I USED TO DRIVE A CAB IN TORONTO.  I USED TO LEASE PLATES AND OPERATE CABS.  I KNOW EXACTLY OF WHAT I SPEAK!

you see those Toronto Cabs with the A for Ambassador.  those began to come out in the late nineties to early 2 thousands.  those plates have no owners.  you are issued with it if you are a cab driver in line for plates and you apply for one. 

the terms for those cabs are what I have described.  you operate it yourself..you may hire one person.  and when you are done, retire or die the plate goes back to the city.  those A cabs cannot be bought and sold like the 5 thousand plus cabs that were issued before the Ambassador cabs system came into being.

that was the idea then.  I don't know what has happened to that program because I left the Industry soon after.  but the old guys are very powerful and it is they who keep the ridiculous situation going that no one can afford, that cause chaos in transportation in Toronto but they don't care.  they profit anyway

I would not be sooprised if some of them are not behind uber as well

I had proposed a few years ago to Flood the place with Plates

and let the law of demand and supply establish Market Value.

versus the status quo of a Monopoly !

but jeeeezzzz UBER apearance did a GREAT job and very quickly !!

UBER  has done a great thing and brought them to their Knees..

I took UBER to the Airport heading to my nephew wedding

they could NOT enter !

had to drop me off at the Car rental place

so there were hardly any "unfair advantages"

that is perfect nonsense.  I know the business.  whose interest is the mayor looking after..the public or those guys who own the plates.

if you want to kill the market in place it can be done by the stroke of a pen.  it is you who don't understand the industry.

why don't you go try to buy a plate and see what is involved!!!!!

LOOK HERE!  ALL, EVERY GODDAM PLATE IN TORONTO IS OWNED BY THE CITY OF TORONTO.  NOT ONE IS IN THE NAME OF ANYONE BUT THE CITY.  THAT IS THE LAW IN TORONTO...NO ONE BUT THE CITY CAN OWN A PLATE.

The plates were issued in the name of those qualified and who applied for a plate as operators of the plates not owner.

to sell a plate you have to transfer it it to a holding company that you own and sell the company.  there are tactics like that.  all those plates that those guys, that constitute the market have were issued donkey years ago and were passed down in their families and sold to each other in those ways.

when they began  to issue Ambassador cabs the intent was to kill that market but those guys are very powerful.  they are almost entirely Jewish people and we know how powerful they are. 

that is why the industry is totally screwed.  and that is why Uber represents no solution. 

and that is why the stupid mayor says the simple solution is too simplistic because his complication is who pays for his skunt, and whose interest he must mind
