There are quite a few similarities between last years Test here against Sri Lanka and this one. England won the toss and chose to bowl both times. In both Tests, England looked set for a big first innings lead with young openers Sam Robson and Adam Lyth scoring maiden Test tons. Both Tests saw England collapse from the ascendency - 275/2 against Sri Lanka to 357 all out and 238/2 to 350 all out against New Zealand. Sri Lanka and New Zealand took complete control of the game with scores of 450 plus in their second innings. Day 5 against Sri Lanka was also affected by rain but England never came close to chasing down their target of 349 but almost survived the day out for a draw - Jimmy's fine rear guard defense finally came to an end with the penultimate ball of the match.

5pm, close
Well unfortunately that's that for today.
No let up in the rain and the umpires have decided that any cricket today is not going to happen.
Such a shame with a great game developing !

Thousands and thousands of empty plastic seats for the final day of an excellent mini-series with tickets costing £5.00.

102 - 5 after 45 overs.
Lunch , Day 5
New Zealand came out of the blocks well with two wickets for Trent Boult who was excellent, then England coughed up three poor
dismissals to the spinners Craig and Kane the second a little unlucky for Joe Root,
Ben Stokes falling just before lunch !!

128 -5 after 50 overs
49.5 Craig to Buttler, FOUR, down the wicket, gets right to the pitch and Buttler clips with excellent timing
49.2 Craig to Cook, FOUR, wider and Cook reaches out to cut it past cover, well put away
47.4 Craig to Buttler, FOUR, full on the stumps, this is flicked out through square leg and runs away for four more
47.2 Craig to Buttler, FOUR,
