No dozens in this thread. I want serious replies on what y'all think evil is. So you say evil is murder and rape?

evil does not exist..neither does its alter face - goodness.

conceptions of evil are abstract human creations as means of social control..nothing more.  conceptions of evil/goodness require god to exist.  no god relevant to any conception of evil/goodness exists... or can possibly exist.

life is an integral part of universal existence and experience, a product of that process. all is form and function, interconnected, solid, explicable and capable of human understanding and use.

as abstract and basically religious evil requires belief..and belief is not life by sight and incapable of being understood..the subject of belief as belief.  yet all and everything that can be cited as evil, no matter how egregious,  is capable of being understood, is in fact understood already, or in the process of being understood.  when something is understood it can be done with any way that humans desire..or mitigated, made to flow  in any way humans realize it is in our best survival interest to go

for all we can cite as evil there is cause and effect, to cause and effect, cause and effect.......

evil can best be cited as a fictitious creation that has to do with the promotion and encouragement/development of human guilt associated with nonsense religious backwater beliefs  like Draculas, sub devils of many sorts emanating from the one devil as goodness is supposed to flow from the one god.  all nonsense

look here..the 2 best depictions of the Devil I have ever seen is Mark Twain's  creation of the devil as Phillip Traum in the story the Mysterious Stranger..and the Devil in a short consecutive comic strip I believe in Penthouse if I remember accurately.

in that strip the devil broke through to real time, replete with cloven hooves and a very big and skillful wood..or dick, prick, bud etc..... in a huge monastry full of nuns, in a sequestered quarter of that structure, unbeknown to most..in which quarter he made a whole lot of nuns very happy indeed ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::

and the nuns kept coming as the word got around until two priests bumped into the ribaldry..or was it debauchery... and put an end to it by bathing the devil with holy water, driving him back through his crease into Hell and sealing it

Denying that evil exist is a good excuse to do nothing about existing conditions. Many people do this and that's very common. Which is how the weak dominates the strong.

The universe be it physical  or metaphysical operates on the premise on equal and opposite. 
If there is good there must be evil . If there  are protons , there must be electrons. .. ying .. yang .. light .. darkness . Cant  have the same

there are limits.  you first have to prove what the world is..or to an extent that gives some fair idea..to l know what physical means and if there is an opposite form of physicality.

we know what light is..we know what dark is..we have properties, reality we call light and dark.  we have an electrical universe and so far we only have some small idea what that means....

we know that a universal process is going on of which we are a part..and that whatever it's extent it is all interconnected and evolving.  we can tell to some far distance into space but beyond that some scientists refuse to speculate.

there is no way to know from what universal state the current electric universe evolved from, and what the electrical university we now see will evolve into....

so what do we really know....

it is easy to know that there is no god like we have though of god so far..so good and evil concepts that originated from philosophies around ideas of god are pointless.  and as we know that everything is material and part of the evolutionary process we know that all is explicable even if we cant understand phenomena we encounter at the moment

therefore all human acts are product of social evolution and human experience..period!  and therefore explainable..cause can be found and the results of cause which is effect which becomes in its turn cause...

therefore there is no evil only action that is useful or harmful relative to the needs of human survival to the extent we know at any time.  if it is harmful we can correct..if it beneficial we can organize to have more of it.

we have had war and now we know why we have been fighting and how to stop it.  War is evil..the greatest human evil..rather bad act.  but war serves the interest of the socially dominant classes.  we know that therefore that we must get rid of the socially dominant classes by changing the social system that has been organized to profit them and keep them in place.  we must eliminate class society, make communal equality to eliminate war and almost all that is socially bad at this time.  what is socially bad is the evil and we know the why, how and when of it..and how to solve it

so there is no evil save it is religious nonsense..ghosts and Draculas and priests and devils and all that crap...the stuff or horror movies.  fiction!  real evil is the wickedness we do in the world..we humans.  and all of that has cause and results in effect....  we can understand it all and change it all
