religion will not go away, however people are getting fed up with all the crookery and distortion of so called religious practices. These are the things that are giving religion a bad name.
The core principles of religion is what created the core foundations of society. If you notice that as practices in the name of religion gets further and further away from these core principles, society becomes disoriented.
Bottom line, religion is not going anywhere. However, religious practices as you know it will have to change.

My question is how do you approach a god without religion/religious reference?
What prayer do you use....how do you partake in worship? Just asking....

Atheists must fight against all of that cultural and evolutionary baggage.
Human beings naturally want to believe that they are a part of something bigger,
that life isn’t completely futile.
Our minds crave purpose and explanation....
With education, exposure to science and critical thinking, people might stop trusting their intuitions,
But the intuitions are there, Meseret !

You see them as atheistic, they see themselves as Islamic and Americans. Or belonging to a religious affiliation. BTW ARE the talibans atheist?

Agree Ketch, but we are intelligent beings. We don't necessarily need a priest in a pulpit to tell us that there is someone/something somewhere out there looking after our well being. That is the purpose of faith.
Now, there are also those who dismiss all that as nonsense. That is their prerogative also.
SCA to answer your question, I don't need to be in a church, or a member of any religion to call upon the Almighty when I want or need to.
The Our Father, for instance is a generic prayer which can be recited by any believer. It is not confined to any one religion.
Point of reference? The bible.
Was the bible written by men of any particular religion?

Here is a story about an atheist conversion:
A priest and an atheist had an argument....and the atheist told him that he doesn't believe. So the priest told him to meet him at the sea shore. So on a Sunday morning they met and the priest walked him to the water's edge and into the water.
So the priest asked him do you believe he said no. The priest ducked the atheist's head under the water. After some time he lifted his head out, and asked do you believe? The guy says no...The priest repeated the action, but held his head longer.....then raised his head again. The priest asked: Do you believe? He said, "Yes, yes...me believe." The priest asked what do you believe. The guy replied: Me believe you gon kill me!!!! ;D
